Great Safety Pointers For The Science Laboratory

By Brittaney Willeto

Want to learn something new & exciting with every new encounter? Then science is the subject for you.

The enjoyment & exciting nature of science is what leads many to pursue it; the number of experiments you'll attempt are virtually never ending.

Although science is a great subject & we all love being around the lab, it can be hazardous if you're not careful so below are several tips to keep you safe in the lab.

The very first thing you must remember #to do# when inside a science laboratory would be to constantly wear eye protection. A little drop of a chemical may cause loss of sight so always wear your safety goggles.

You should look after the rest of the body as well, so remember to wear gloves at all times in addition to whatever other safety clothing is required.

Additionally along the same lines of protection against chemicals, remember to always treat those chemicals with caution. In fact, in no way let any chemicals that you may be working with be inhaled, or to even get in contact with your skin. And remember, unless specifically told to do so, by no means heat or cool any chemical substances.

Seeing as fire is a big component of many experiments, you should be cautious around it, keeping your distance and tying up hair and keeping clothing out of the way by rolling up your sleeves.

Be especially careful with glass items inside the laboratory. They can be easy to break and may cause a nasty cut if you accidentally break one.

As you will have probably already guessed, in no way run in a science laboratory. Not only can running be incredibly risky, but it can also cause all kinds of problems in a lab.

When working with chemicals while in the laboratory it needs to be noted that unless you are told explicitly to do so, in no way mix chemicals. Often, mixing chemicals creates big reactions, including explosions. These reactions can lead to devastating injuries, especially if you find yourself a foot away.

If you have a fire as part of your experimentation, be sure to locate the shut off valve before you make a start, so you can stop it at any time. Keep the fire escape in mind as well.

So remember these tips to help keep you safe in the science lab.
