About Global Sourcing

By Darren Blaze

Global sourcing is a crucial aspect of the import/export business and China isn't very far behind. Basically, Global sourcing is transforming the economies of the world including China's. In addition, it is also transforming the work cultures all over the world and China is playing a primary role in that transformation.

Essentially, global sourcing is the globalization that brings import/export business within reach of many small businesses in the United States. With the Chinese economy deeply integrated into worldwide trade, China businesses are working overtime in order to capitalize. No sooner than China business stakes its claim to the benefits of global sourcing then the subject of global sourcing becomes the hot topic all over the world.

It is well known that global sourcing is only a business strategy to make sure that there is a cost effective and smoother enterprise transformation, accessing new markets through the use of some primary geographic benefits including time zones, labor strengths, and cost differences. The obvious benefits that China business has is that it has major governmental thrust for infrastructural development that is driven by importing and exporting and a geographic location for primary markets. These days, importing and exporting is driving the entire Chinese economy and business with it.

This is a very controversial issue because there are contradictory perceptions with regards to importing and exporting from China businesses as opposed to global sourcing. However, global sourcing is being implemented in spite of this with all the benefit/risk analysis in place. As far as China is concerned, they are forging ahead and working out their problems as they go.

The fact is that Chinese business is becoming a primary supplier of goods and services. However, the market is changing drastically as well. Chinese importing and exporting are two of the primary international economic activities these days and they have taken on new meanings in the scenario of global sourcing. China business has become known as the new frontier for global outsourcing and many global import/export manufacturers will either have to manufacture their own products or outsource them to China. This has resulted in China's model of a low cost economy.

Compiled import and export price indexes that are available are reflective of goods and services that are purchased in the United States but they are calculated based on cost when they are produced. This is very important for the import and export business in China.
